Orban: Ukraine’s NATO membership creates a constant threat of conflict
Budapest, January 25 (Hibya) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would make the threat of military conflict permanent.
According to CCTV, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a speech at a meeting of the ruling party on Saturday that Ukraine’s entry into NATO would turn the risk of military conflict into a constant threat.
Orban noted that for the past 30 years Ukraine had served as a buffer zone between Russia and the Western world, but that this dynamic had changed due to decisions taken by Ukraine and Western countries, including the United States.
He added that Ukraine’s efforts to integrate into the Western security system are perceived by Russia as a direct border threat.
Recalling Russia’s warnings that Ukraine’s attempts to join NATO would lead to war, Orban said: “Ultimately, there is a need for a buffer zone between Russia and the West extending to Hungary’s eastern border. Reaching a consensus on how Ukraine can regain its role as a buffer zone is of vital importance; otherwise, the war may continue indefinitely.”
