Guterres calls for reducing methane emissions
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the launch of a global call to reduce methane emissions.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres launched a global call to reduce methane emissions.
Guterres stated that methane is responsible for approximately one-third of global warming and has a greenhouse effect 80 times stronger than carbon dioxide.
“I am launching a global call to reduce methane emissions in the waste, agriculture and fossil fuel sectors,” Guterres said, adding that the initiative also includes the creation of a new global standard aimed at achieving “near-zero methane emissions” across the oil and natural gas value chain.
