Guterres: I welcome the prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia
New York, May 9 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that he welcomed the temporary ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement reached between Russia and Ukraine, reiterating his call for a return to international law for lasting peace.
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the humanitarian importance of the agreement reached between the parties and stated that they support the process.
Commenting on the developments, Guterres said: “I welcome the ceasefire announced between Ukraine and Russia and the planned large-scale prisoner exchange.”
Expressing appreciation for the efforts of the United States, Guterres stated: “I appreciate the efforts of the United States in securing this agreement and fully support its implementation.”
Emphasizing the need for a lasting solution, Guterres said: “In accordance with the UN Charter and international law, I reiterate my call for an immediate, full, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire as a first step toward a just, sustainable, and comprehensive peace.”
