Guterres: Mpox is no longer an international health emergency
Geneva, 5 September (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that Mpox is no longer considered a global health emergency.
Ghebreyesus said that the Emergency Committee for Mpox met yesterday and recommended that the situation no longer constitutes an international health emergency.
He stated that he accepted the committee’s recommendation, adding, “The removal of the emergency does not mean that the threat has ended or that our response will cease.”
The WHO had declared Mpox an international public health emergency in 2022. According to the statement, monitoring and efforts to combat the disease will continue.
