Guterres: This step must lead to a comprehensive agreement
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the release of Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, who was held hostage.
Guterres emphasized that this development should pave the way for broader steps toward peace and humanitarian progress in the region. In his statement, he said, “I welcome the release of Edan Alexander, who was held hostage in Gaza.”
Calling for action, Guterres added: “Building on today’s development, a comprehensive agreement must be reached—one that ensures the release of all hostages, ends the fighting, delivers humanitarian aid, and puts an end to the long-standing suffering in Gaza.”
