Harris: An honorary payment will be made for the survivors of Stardust
Dublin, February 10 (Hibya) - Irish Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris announced that, on the 45th anniversary of the Stardust tragedy, the commitment to justice and support for the victims and survivors would continue.
Irish Deputy Prime Minister Harris stated that during this weekend's commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Stardust tragedy, the government remained committed to delivering justice and truth for the victims and survivors.
Harris announced that a plan for an honorary payment for the survivors had been approved. This follows a previous government apology and compensation program for the families of the victims that he had presented as Prime Minister.
In his statement, Minister Harris said, “Today, and on Valentine's Day, we remember the 48 victims who lost their lives unlawfully on that terrible night 45 years ago, and everyone affected physically or mentally by the fire. We hope that the actions taken by the government will help with the healing of the trauma.”
