Iran to begin drills along the Iraq border
Stockholm, 2 February (Hibya) – Iran’s army will conduct drills along the Iraq border on 2–3 February amid rising tensions with the United States, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported, citing the mayor of Qasr-e Shirin, where the exercises will take place.
The statement said: “The military exercises of the Army of the Islamic Republic will be held on Monday and Tuesday in Qasr-e Shirin.”
It was noted that explosion sounds may be heard in connection with the drills.
US President Donald Trump had previously said that “a large naval force” was heading toward Iran and expressed hope that Tehran would agree to negotiate a “fair and equitable” deal that includes the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, Axios claimed, citing sources, that Türkiye, Egypt and Qatar are working to arrange a meeting in Ankara next week between US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior Iranian officials.
