IRGC General Javani: Aliyev and Pashinyan made the same mistake as Zelensky
Stockholm, August 11 (Hibya) - Yadollah Javani, Deputy Chief for Political Affairs of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, by trusting the United States, made the same mistake as Volodymyr Zelensky.
The conservative Iranian newspaper Kayhan quoted the general as saying: "By trusting the US, Aliyev and Pashinyan made the same mistake as Zelensky... They will pay a heavy price for this worthless behavior. Iran, India, and Russia will not remain silent in the face of this action."
Javani stressed that the "American dream" of a US presence on Iran's northern borders would never come true, and that the Islamic Republic of Iran would defend its security and national interests by all means against the Zangezur project.
A day earlier, Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, said that the Iranian side opposed a Trump-backed project to create a corridor through Armenia linking Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan. He added that the Zangezur corridor is part of the national territory and not "land" that can be easily leased.
According to Velayati, the expansion of US influence in this region could lead to the expansion of NATO's influence across the entire South Caucasus, which could become a "snake" between Iran and Russia. Velayati emphasized that Tehran would not allow this to happen.
According to Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan, if implemented, Trump's "Peace and Prosperity Road" project, which will connect Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic via Armenian territory, will be the largest investment program in modern Armenian history.
