Israeli forces kill five Al Jazeera staff members
Stockholm, August 11 (Hibya) – Israeli forces killed five Al Jazeera staff members, including reporter Anas al-Sharif, in a targeted attack on a media tent outside the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
The Israeli military claimed that al-Sharif led a unit of Hamas’s armed wing and took responsibility for the assassination.
Al Jazeera reporter Mohammed Karakeh, cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Mu’min Aliva, and their assistant Mohammed Nufal were also killed in the attack.
Hours before Israeli forces killed the Al Jazeera team in Gaza, Palestine’s UN representative Riyad Mansour, in his address to the Security Council, called for journalists to be taken to Gaza to see what is happening there.
In a rare weekend session of the Security Council, Mansour said: “Why, as the Security Council, don’t you take 100 journalists from your country and others to verify exactly what is happening in Gaza?”
Mansour added: “If Netanyahu is so sure about this global ‘lie’ conspiracy, let him prove it. I invite you: he should allow you to go to the Gaza Strip and see exactly what is happening there. Take journalists with you so you can fully verify what is happening in Gaza.”
