Tsahkna: Jaakson’s determination kept Estonia’s independence from being forgotten
Tallinn, August 11 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that thanks to the determination of Ernst Jaakson, who represented Estonia in the United States of America (USA) during the Soviet occupation, Estonia’s struggle for independence was not forgotten on the international stage.
The Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tsahkna, shared the story of Jaakson, who represented Estonia in the USA for 50 years during the Soviet occupation.
Tsahkna stated that Jaakson’s strength to continue his duties even in times when hope for independence was minimal came from his belief that “injustice, human rights violations, and terror will not last forever.”
He stressed that Jaakson’s unwavering dedication ensured that Estonia’s independence was neither forgotten nor lost among its allies.
The Estonian Foreign Minister said this stance remains an important lesson even today.
