Kristersson: Hungary is on the wrong side of history
Stockholm, August 23 (Hibya) – Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson criticized Hungary for siding with Russia, saying: “Hungary is on the wrong side of history.”
Prime Minister Kristersson said that Russia is attacking Ukraine 24 hours a day, causing endless suffering.
He noted that the Russian economy is in a “terrible” state, but oil exports and the shadow fleet provide Russia with the revenue it needs to continue the war: “Ukraine is defending itself with impressive capability and with the support of almost all of Europe. After Ukraine successfully attacked Russian oil pipelines, the Hungarian Foreign Minister responded: ‘Ukraine wants to drag us into the war’.”
Kristersson recalled that in 1956 they stood by Hungary when it tried to free itself from Russian and Soviet oppression, and added:
“And in 2004, when it wanted to join the EU, we stood by it. Hungary’s only reward for this is to side with Russia while European democracy is fighting a life-and-death battle. Hungary is on the wrong side of history.”
