New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon stated that they are focusing on strengthening fundamental skills in the education system, particularly reading, writing, and mathematics.

Luxon said, “Delivering strong foundational education requires implementing one hour each day of reading, writing, and mathematics lessons, banning mobile phones in classrooms, and establishing a consistent nationwide system for assessment, evaluation, and reporting.”

Noting that new teaching resources will be introduced and the number of learning support coordinators will be increased, Luxon added, “We are establishing a nationally consistent system so parents can clearly track their children’s educational progress. The National Party is strengthening foundational education and building the future.”
