Macron holds phone call with Iranian President Pezeshkian
Paris, March 8 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the security of French citizens, the halt of military attacks in the region, and the lifting of the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement regarding his conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian. During the call, both bilateral relations and developments in the Middle East were discussed.
Speaking about the situation of French citizens and regional security demands, Macron said: "I told him that the security of Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who are currently at the French embassy, and their return to France are an absolute priority for us. I stressed that Iran must immediately stop its attacks against countries in the region."
Macron also expressed concerns regarding maritime trade and the nuclear program, stating: "Iran must also put an end to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz and guarantee freedom of navigation. Finally, I reiterated our deep concern regarding the development of Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and all of its destabilizing activities in the region, which lie at the root of the current crisis."
Emphasizing the importance of diplomacy to resolve the crisis, President Macron said: "To overcome these critical challenges, end tensions and preserve peace, a diplomatic solution is more necessary than ever. We agreed to continue communication."
