Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Friedrich Merz on becoming Chancellor of Germany. In a statement shared on social media, Meloni emphasized that cooperation between Italy and Germany will play a crucial role in both boosting Europe’s competitiveness and tackling global challenges.

“I congratulate Merz on being elected Federal Chancellor of Germany. Cooperation between Italy and Germany is critically important in facing global challenges,” Meloni stated, noting that as two of Europe’s leading industrial economies, the two countries can help revitalize competitiveness, particularly in the automotive sector.

Meloni also expressed readiness to work with Germany on building fair partnerships with Africa and addressing irregular migration.
