Australia's ASX 200 index fell 1.96 percent to 8,617.10 points. Japan's Nikkei 225 index, meanwhile, rose 2.71 percent to 68,561.67 points.
India's Nifty 50 index declined 0.26 percent to 22,562.40 points, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index increased 0.37 percent to 24,613.27 points.
China's Shanghai index also rose 0.31 percent to reach 3,842.195 points.
