Palestinian Foreign Ministry calls for international action on detainees
Ramallah, September 27 (Hibya) - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said a meeting was held as part of a national and international campaign concerning the situation of Palestinian detainees.
According to a statement by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the meeting, which addressed efforts concerning Palestinian detainees, considered increasing legal and diplomatic initiatives.
The meeting addressed practices by Israeli authorities in prisons, special courts and legal arrangements, as well as the legal status of detainees and their conditions of detention. The ministry said efforts would continue to bring alleged violations of detainees’ rights before international mechanisms and to hold those responsible accountable.
The statement said applications to United Nations human rights mechanisms and relevant international organizations were continuing, and that legal and diplomatic initiatives would be intensified in the coming period.
