Qatar’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi attended a ministerial meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation in preventive diplomacy, mediation and conflict resolution.

According to a statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was held in New York on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly with the participation of Qatar, the United Mexican States, Norway and Switzerland.

Speaking at the meeting, Al Khulaifi noted that the gathering was taking place at a time of deepening geopolitical divisions and increasing armed conflicts, stressing that under these circumstances the importance of mediation between parties is steadily growing.

Emphasizing the four countries’ commitment to the United Nations Charter and the peaceful settlement of disputes, Al Khulaifi expressed appreciation for the role of the Group of Friends of Mediation, co-chaired by Türkiye and Finland, in supporting United Nations efforts to prevent conflicts.

Noting that Qatar’s mediation efforts have expanded across many continents over the years, Al Khulaifi said these efforts cover various areas, ranging from the release of hostages and conflict resolution to negotiating political understandings and helping countries reach diplomatic agreements.

Al Khulaifi said that, in this context, Qatar is working together with Pakistan to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States, ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and support peace and stability in the region.
