U.S. Secretary of State Rubio stated that Venezuela’s natural resources will ensure that the country is stable and prosperous from now on.

Noting that their hope is to transition to a mechanism that would allow these resources to be sold in a normal manner, Rubio said, “A normal oil industry that is not dominated by cronies and not run by bribery and corruption.”

Rubio said they have held serious counternarcotics talks with Venezuelan authorities focused on pursuing drug trafficking organizations.

Stating that for the first time in 20 years they have held serious talks aimed at eroding and eliminating Iranian presence, Chinese influence, and Russian presence as well, Rubio said, “In fact, let me tell you this: there are many elements in Venezuela that welcome the reestablishment of relations with the United States on many fronts.”
