Russell: Civilians and aid workers must never be targeted
New York, March 11 (Hibya) - UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell expressed deep sorrow and anger over the death of UNICEF staff member Karine Buisset in a drone attack in the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell issued a statement regarding the attack in Goma that resulted in the death of one of their colleagues.
Sharing her sadness over the attack, Russell said: "All of us at UNICEF are deeply saddened and outraged by the killing of our colleague Karine Buisset in a drone attack in the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. My first thoughts are with her family, loved ones and colleagues at UNICEF."
Emphasizing the inviolability of civilians under international humanitarian law, Russell stated: "Civilians, including aid workers, must never be targeted."
