Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar emphasized that Colombia's incoming president, Abelardo de la Espriella, is a determined and inspiring leader, adding that his election marks an important development for relations between the two countries.

Saar described De la Espriella as "a great friend of the Jewish people and the State of Israel."

Referring to their meeting, Saar said: "One day before the most important 24 hours of his life, I had the privilege of meeting him in his office in Barranquilla. During our meeting, we discussed the immediate strengthening of political, security and economic relations between Colombia and Israel. It was a highly significant meeting for the future of cooperation between our two countries."

Saar concluded his remarks by saying: "The golden age of relations between Colombia and Israel begins today."
