During the meeting, Minister Şahin stated that Portugal’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine was received with deep appreciation by the Palestinian people, noting that this historic step reflects Portugal’s commitment to international law and its desire to contribute to a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Şahin emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Palestine and Portugal in the fields of diplomacy, tourism, and culture, expressing hope that Portugal will play an active role in the reconstruction process of Gaza. He also stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stands ready to provide all necessary support to facilitate the new representative’s duties.

The new representative, José Guedes de Sousa, expressed his honor in assuming this position following Portugal’s recognition of the State of Palestine and underscored his country’s appreciation of the Palestinian government’s role in Gaza and the importance of stability in the region.
