Spain experienced its hottest summer on record in 2025
Brussels, September 17 (Hibya) – According to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, Europe has been warming at twice the global average rate since the 1980s. Spanish authorities said on Tuesday that, like the entire Mediterranean region, the southern European country has been severely affected by climate change and this summer marked record-breaking heat.
The national meteorological service reported that the country’s average temperature between June 1 and August 31 was 24.2 degrees Celsius.
This is the highest temperature since records began in 1961.
The previous record was 24.1 degrees, registered in 2022.
This summer was also 2.1 degrees warmer than the national average for the period 1991–2020.
The highest single-day temperature, 45.8 degrees Celsius, was recorded on August 17 in Jerez de la Frontera, southern Spain, during a heatwave.
