Starmer holds phone call with Zelensky
London, January 28 (Hibya) – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The UK Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement regarding the phone call between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The statement said that Starmer began the call by expressing his support to Zelensky and the Ukrainian people following recent Russian missile and drone attacks, and that the leaders discussed the difficult conditions facing Ukraine, including many families being left without heating and electricity during freezing winter conditions.
It was noted that Zelensky referred to recent visits to Ukraine by British ministers and underlined the United Kingdom’s unwavering support as Russia’s full-scale invasion enters its fourth year. The statement continued:
“The President said he welcomed the £20 million support announced by the United Kingdom earlier this month for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. It was stated that this support would strengthen Ukraine’s energy security in the face of Russia’s increasing and indiscriminate attacks on critical infrastructure.”
The leaders assessed the progress made in the latest peace talks held in Abu Dhabi and agreed on the need for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
It was reported that Starmer informed Zelensky about his upcoming visits to China and Japan, and that the leaders expressed their wish to speak again in the near future.
