Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha hosted Isabelle Berro-Amadei, Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, in Kyiv. The meeting addressed Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, peace efforts, the situation on the front line and mechanisms to hold Russia accountable for war crimes.

Sybiha said, “I briefed her on Russia’s barbaric terror against Ukrainian civilians, businesses and critical infrastructure, the ongoing peace efforts and the situation on the front line.”

Sybiha said the meeting also covered the special tribunal for the crime of aggression, the Register of Damage, the International Claims Commission and the future Compensation Fund. Stressing the importance of Monaco’s chairmanship in supporting these initiatives, Sybiha said, “The support of the Monaco Chairmanship is vital to advancing these initiatives and ensuring that all perpetrators are held accountable.”

Stressing the need to increase pressure on Russia, Sybiha said, “We agreed that pressure on Russia must be increased not only through international mechanisms, but also through additional sanctions, particularly those targeting the resources that sustain Russia’s military-industrial complex and war machine.”

Sybiha also thanked Monaco for its decision to join the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. He said the decision sends an important message that Russia’s crimes against Ukrainian children are condemned by the world and that the abduction and deportation of children are unacceptable.

Sybiha also thanked Monaco for its contribution to the work of the International Alliance for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in Conflict Areas and for its support in preserving Ukraine’s cultural heritage and museum collections.
