Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi in New York and discussed the tensions seen in southern Lebanon in recent weeks and developments related to the country's stability.

Tajani said he strongly condemned the tensions in southern Lebanon, adding, “I reiterated Italy's strong commitment to Lebanon's stability and sovereignty.”

Tajani also said they clearly condemned Hezbollah's actions, which he said put the security of the Lebanese people and regional stability at risk. He stated that respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and institutions, together with the implementation of international decisions, remains a fundamental condition for building lasting peace.

Tajani said Rome was ready to host new rounds of negotiations and encourage initiatives useful for a political solution, adding that they would continue to support the strengthening of Lebanese institutions.

Tajani said they had decided to strengthen their humanitarian commitments and noted that they would continue to assist the population, including Christian communities, with the aim of making Lebanon increasingly stable.
