Trump at 250th anniversary celebration: The American spirit has stood strong since 1776
Washington, July 5 (Hibya) - U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a wide-ranging speech during the Independence Day celebration held on the National Mall, reflecting on 250 years of American history, the nation's founding values, and honoring military veterans.
U.S. President Donald Trump delivered remarks during the July 4 Independence Day celebration on the National Mall, highlighting the United States' 250-year history, its founding principles, and its veterans.
Referring to the Declaration of Independence, Trump said, "In Philadelphia, our Founding Fathers summoned the courage of giants and the wisdom of the ages to proclaim these timeless truths: that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
Reflecting on American history, Trump emphasized the struggle for freedom, saying, "When 56 patriots signed their names to the document of liberty, they risked everything and left a triumph for the ages."
Devoting a significant portion of his speech to the nation's historical journey, Trump said, "Here on our National Mall, we celebrate the triumph of liberty over tyranny, liberty over oppression, and the enduring victory of the American spirit from July 4, 1776, to July 4, 2026."
Trump described America as "a land of hope, promise, light, and greatness" throughout its history, adding, "With God's help, may it always remain so."
The speech also honored veterans and historic figures from different eras, including Vietnam War veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Colonel Paris Davis, one of the last surviving veterans of the Pearl Harbor attack, Captain Ken Schubring, and D-Day veteran Arthur Rose.
Trump also referred to the wars the United States has fought throughout its history, paying tribute to those who served in the Korean War and the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
The event also featured symbolic presentations on the history of the American flag. Trump stated, "Since the British surrender at Yorktown, this flag has flown as a symbol of freedom."
Concluding his speech with the words, "We are one nation, one family, and we have one flag," Trump said the United States had become "stronger, freer, wealthier, and safer" over the past 250 years.
