Ukraine: We call on Hungary and Slovakia for constructive cooperation and responsible behavior
Kyiv, February 21 (Hibya) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that it calls on the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic for constructive cooperation and responsible behavior.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ukraine rejected and condemned the ultimatums and blackmail of the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic regarding energy supplies between the countries.
The statement said, “Such steps are provocative and irresponsible in the context of Russia’s large-scale and targeted attacks against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and Moscow’s attempts to deprive Ukrainians of electricity, heating, and gas under conditions of extreme cold; they also threaten the energy security of the entire region.”
The statement noted that in this way the governments of Hungary and Slovakia not only play into the aggressor’s hands, but also harm their own energy companies that supply energy on a commercial basis.
The statement also added:
“Ukraine has always been and will continue to be a reliable energy partner of the EU and a transit country for energy resources. However, in light of the unfounded and irresponsible threats coming in recent days from Budapest and Bratislava, Ukraine is considering the possibility of activating the Early Warning Mechanism provided for in the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. We call on the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic for constructive cooperation and responsible behavior.”
