Ukraine's Foreign Ministry stated that Russia's military intervention in Georgia 18 years ago constituted a grave violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The statement said that the attacks launched in 2008, the loss of life, the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, the occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali/South Ossetia region, the forced distribution of passports, and borderization measures were all part of Moscow's policy aimed at undermining the sovereignty of other states.

The ministry argued that the international community's failure to respond firmly enough in 2008 paved the way for Russia's later occupation of Crimea and Donbas, followed by its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The statement emphasized that Ukraine continues to support Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, calling on Russia to withdraw from the temporarily occupied territories of Georgia and Ukraine and fulfill its international obligations.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry also called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia, expand sanctions, and support joint efforts to ensure that Russia's political and military leadership is held accountable for the crime of aggression and other war crimes.
