UNHCR: Floods in southern Mozambique affect more than 600,000 people
Geneva, 23 January (Hibya) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that severe flooding has displaced thousands of families, that it is supporting the government-led response, and that it stands ready to scale up assistance.
UNHCR said that the severe floods impacting southern Mozambique have affected more than 600,000 people. As floodwaters rise, many families have been forced to flee the area, while humanitarian needs are increasing by the hour.
In a statement, UNHCR noted that the disaster has led to new displacements, adding that the agency supports the government-led response efforts and is prepared to increase aid in line with needs.
