U.S. stock markets closed the day lower
Istanbul, June 4 (Hibya) - U.S. equity markets ended the trading session in negative territory.
U.S. equity markets closed the trading day lower. Major indices followed a predominantly bearish course, while the VIX Index, which measures market volatility, moved higher.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell 1.21 percent to 50,687.07 points. The S&P 500 Index declined 0.74 percent to 7,553.68 points, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Index lost 0.89 percent to close at 26,853.98 points.
The Russell 2000 Index, which reflects the performance of small-cap companies, also dropped 1.31 percent to 2,893.51 points.
Meanwhile, the VIX Index, which gauges market volatility, rose 1.84 percent to 16.06. The overall sentiment in U.S. markets remained negative due to a decline in investors' risk appetite.
