European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke with King Abdullah II of Jordan following yesterday’s Iranian attacks.

Von der Leyen stated that with Khamenei’s departure, a new hope has emerged for the Iranian people, saying, “We must ensure that the future is in their hands and shaped by them. At the same time, this moment carries a real risk of instability that could drag the region into a spiral of violence.”

Noting that they are working in close cooperation with all key actors and regional partners to ensure stability and security and to protect civilians, von der Leyen said, “Jordan is a valuable partner for Europe in the region and will play a key role in the period ahead. We thank you for your leadership in these challenging times. You can count on our full support.”
