WHO, UNICEF and UNRWA to provide health support for 44,000 children in Gaza
Geneva, November 5 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that a comprehensive vaccination and nutrition program for 44,000 children in Gaza, who have been deprived of basic health services for two years, will begin next week.
Ghebreyesus stated that WHO, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) will launch a campaign to provide routine vaccination, nutrition screening, and medical treatment for 44,000 children who have lacked access to essential healthcare due to ongoing conflicts.
He added that to support this effort, 20 damaged or destroyed health facilities will be repaired, service points will be expanded, and the basic health infrastructure will be rebuilt. Ghebreyesus emphasized that maintaining the ceasefire is vital not only for the success of this humanitarian initiative but also for the recovery of Gaza’s healthcare system.
