Wong: More than 2,600 Australians have returned home
Canberra, March 10 (Hibya) - Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced that more than 2,600 Australians stranded in the Middle East have returned to the country on 18 commercial flights.
Australian Foreign Minister Wong stated that support efforts for Australian citizens wishing to return from the region due to developments in the Middle East are ongoing.
Emphasizing that flight cancellations have increased due to the crisis in the region, Wong said: “Since February 28, more than 27,000 flights passing through the region have been canceled and approximately 4.4 million seats have been removed from flight schedules.”
Noting that the Australian government is working intensively to support affected citizens, Wong said: “As of this morning, more than 2,600 Australians have returned home on 18 commercial flights.”
Wong also stated that the crisis registration portal remains open for Australians in Bahrain, Iran, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates.
