Zakharova: Japan was on the wrong side of history during World War II
Moscow, February 20 (Hibya) - Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Japan stood on the wrong side of history during World War II.
According to CCTV, in an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG) on Monday, Maria Zakharova said that Japanese politicians during World War II misled the public, causing them to lose their humanity and commit extremely cruel crimes.
Zakharova stated that historical tensions stem from the refusal of some Japanese political figures to acknowledge wartime aggression, saying: “The problem of some individuals and politicians in Japan is that they cannot face the fact that during World War II, Japan stood on the wrong side of history. Japan was an aggressor, a militarist state; it committed extremely brutal crimes by killing numerous Chinese citizens as well as citizens of our country.”
Zakharova added that since the end of World War II, Japanese society and politicians have had many opportunities to reflect on past aggression, but failing to acknowledge these mistakes means that past crimes continue.
Stating that Russia will stand on the same side as China to prevent the revival of Japanese militarism, Zakharova said: “If mistakes and crimes are not reflected upon, the crimes of that period continue. Lessons must be learned so that descendants do not repeat the same mistakes. We have lived through all of this and will never allow this trend to spread. I believe that Russia and China are on the same side on this issue.”
