Zelensky: Russia’s shadow fleet in Europe must be controlled
Kyiv, March 5 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky drew attention to Russia’s shadow fleet in European waters and the use of energy revenues for the war, emphasizing Ukraine’s long-range weapons capability.
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that Russia’s shadow fleet in Europe is a serious problem for the European Union (EU) and Europe. “Laws should be changed to ensure that detained Russian tankers and their oil are confiscated. Otherwise, they are released a few days after the court decision and suffer almost no losses,” he said.
Zelensky added, “We do not need Russian oil and we do not want to profit from it. However, we must prevent the Russians from using this revenue to finance the war.”
The president also highlighted Ukraine’s long-range weapons capability: he noted that Ukraine has received Storm Shadow missiles from the United Kingdom, SCALP missiles from France, and a limited number of ATACMS from the United States, but emphasized that all long-range weapons beyond 200–250 kilometers are entirely produced in Ukraine.
Zelensky said, “Russia no longer has the initiative. They can control their homes and want to influence the population and persuade contract soldiers. However, every month 30–35 thousand Russians die; this is a huge loss.”
