Zelensky: The Carpathians can become a region supplying energy to the European Union
Kyiv, September 18 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Carpathian macro-region is being positioned as a single market and investment portfolio, announcing that more than 50 agreements worth over 1 billion euros are ready to be signed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at the “Carpathian Integration Initiative” International Economic Forum. Zelensky said the Carpathian macro-region was being presented for the first time as a single market and investment portfolio.
Zelensky said, “Today, more than 50 agreements worth over 1 billion euros are ready to be signed. This is only the beginning.”
Stating that energy accounts for approximately half of the investment portfolio, Zelensky highlighted solar and wind power, energy storage, new interconnection lines and underground natural gas storage facilities. He also said a Carpathian wind energy cluster with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts had been proposed.
Zelensky said, “The Carpathians can become not only a transit region, but a region supplying energy to the European Union. This directly supports Europe’s goal of achieving energy independence from Russia.”
