Zelensky: We imposed sanctions on Lukashenko, we will increase countermeasures
Kyiv, February 18 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that they have decided to impose sanctions on Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Zelensky argued that Belarus supports Russia in increasing its offensive capacity.
President Zelensky announced that a new package of sanctions targeting Belarusian President Lukashenko has entered into force.
Zelensky stated that measures against any support by Belarus for the killing of Ukrainians will be significantly intensified, adding that they will work with partners to ensure these steps have a global impact.
The statement claimed that in the second half of 2025, relay stations were deployed by Russia on Belarusian territory to control attack drones, which increased the Russian army’s capacity to strike northern regions from the Kyiv region to Volyn. Zelensky alleged that without Belarus’s support, some attacks on energy facilities and railways would not have been possible.
Zelensky also claimed that more than 3,000 Belarusian enterprises serve Russia’s war activities by supplying machinery, equipment and components classified as “critical.” Among these components are parts used in the production of missiles employed in attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages.
Zelensky said that infrastructure work continues for the deployment of medium-range “Oreshnik” missiles on Belarusian territory, posing a threat not only to Ukraine but also to Europe. He alleged that Lukashenko traded Belarus’s sovereignty in exchange for maintaining his personal power and helped Russia circumvent global sanctions.
Zelensky stated that due to these developments, there will be “special consequences” for the Belarusian administration.
