Bulgaria approves 2026 social insurance budget
Sofia, July 23 (Hibya) – Bulgaria's National Assembly approved the 2026 State Social Insurance (SSI) Budget on its second reading. Minister of Labour and Social Policy Natalia Efremova said the budget guarantees the sustainability of payments for pensioners, mothers, unemployed people, and citizens temporarily unable to work.
Speaking during the parliamentary debates, Efremova said that preserving the financial sustainability of the social insurance system is of great importance due to the demographic crisis facing Bulgaria. She added that the government's priority is to ensure that all social security payments are made on time and to maintain the stability of the social insurance system.
Efremova also recalled that the existing 50 percent incentive for mothers who return to work during the second year of maternity leave remains in place, adding that balanced social policy measures for next year's budget will be evaluated in the coming weeks.
