According to CCTV, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday congratulated Abelardo de la Espriella on his election as President of Colombia.

In his message, Xi noted that despite changes in the international landscape, China and Colombia have remained strategic partners since establishing diplomatic relations 46 years ago.

The Chinese leader said that political mutual trust between the two countries has deepened, friendship between their peoples has grown stronger, and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative has been advancing in a "high-quality and steady manner."

Xi stressed that China attaches great importance to developing relations with Colombia and is ready to further expand cooperation in the economic, political, and cultural fields in the new era.

Meanwhile, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng also sent a separate congratulatory message to Colombia's new Vice President, Jose Manuel Restrepo Abondano.
