EU to remove customs exemptions on low-value parcels
Brussels, November 13 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that EU finance ministers have approved the removal of customs exemptions for low-value imported parcels.
Von der Leyen stated in a post on her social media account that the decision made at the ECOFIN meeting is an important step in managing the increase of small parcels, especially those coming from China.
"Now all parcels will go through standard customs procedures. This is a key step to ensure fair competition, strengthen inspections, and enhance consumer protection," she said.
The European Commission President also announced that member states will receive support regarding transitional measures during the implementation of the decision.
