Flooding deepens in western France after 35 days of rain
Paris, February 20 (Hibya) - After 35 days of rain, France is grappling with major floods, evacuations and power outages, while forecasters say rivers will continue to rise despite the expected dry weather ahead.
In Libourne, the Dordogne River overflowed into the streets, though damage has so far remained limited. A new storm and high tides have further increased pressure on already saturated ground.
The government warned that the flood disaster is not yet over.
Some western areas, including Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire, are under red alert. In Angers, low-lying districts are flooded and some residents have left their homes. More than 1,700 people have been evacuated in Lot-et-Garonne. Power outages are still affecting thousands of homes.
Meteorologists expect drier weather soon, but Meteo-France and Vigicrues stress that rivers will continue to rise due to water flowing from upper basins toward the sea.
