Friedrich: We honor the resilience of all girls on the frontlines of crises
New York, October 11 (Hibya) – Roland Friedrich, Director of UNRWA Affairs for the West Bank and East Jerusalem, marked the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.
Friedrich stated that on the International Day of the Girl Child, they honor the resilience of all girls on the frontlines of crises, especially those forcibly displaced in the northern West Bank.
He noted that more than 6,000 girls in the Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps remain far from home, with their education interrupted and their futures uncertain. “More than 60% of the 48,000 students in UNRWA schools in the West Bank are girls. These girls will one day become women – doctors, lawyers, scientists, programmers, journalists, teachers, and politicians – who will serve their communities. For seventy years, UNRWA has been educating generations of Palestinian girls, helping them develop life skills,” Friedrich said.
He added that as the world celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, UNRWA in the West Bank reaffirms its commitment to protecting the future of Palestinian refugees, including girls.
