Ghebreyesus: Over 10,000 children vaccinated in Gaza
Geneva, 20 November (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that more than 10,000 children were vaccinated in the first eight days of the immunization campaign that began on 9 November; the campaign aims to reach over 40,000 children.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus stated that WHO and its partners vaccinated more than 10,000 children under the age of three during the first eight days of the campaign launched in Gaza. The campaign is being carried out in cooperation with UNICEF, UNRWA and the Gaza Ministry of Health and aims to protect children against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, polio, rotavirus and pneumonia.
The second and third phases of the campaign are planned for December 2025 and January 2026. WHO field monitoring teams are tracking the campaign’s quality and coverage.
Tedros emphasized that the ongoing ceasefire allows WHO and partners to expand critical health services in Gaza and support the re-equipment and repair of the devastated health system. Successful completion of the campaign aims to protect children in the region from serious diseases.
