Merz met with Kristersson
Berlin, 19 November (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that he and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson are strengthening cooperation in the field of security, stressing that barriers to defense industry products in the EU internal market must be removed.
Chancellor Merz stated after the meeting that cooperation in security policy is at the core of relations between the two countries.
He emphasized that the European Union must assume a stronger role in the defense industry, saying: “Together with Sweden, we are prioritizing cooperation in security policy. The EU must contribute more to the defense industry. Therefore, we want to remove the obstacles to defense industry products in the internal market.”
Merz added that Germany and Sweden are taking joint steps to strengthen Europe’s security capacity. The statement highlighted the importance of regulations that will enable faster and more efficient circulation of defense products within the EU.
