Guterres: Nagasaki became a symbol of humanity's capacity for destruction
New York, August 9 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a message marking the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he firmly believes that the world must remember the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, its victims and its survivors.
Highlighting Nagasaki's historical significance and the messages it carries for the present day, Guterres said, "Eighty-one years ago, Nagasaki became a symbol of humanity's capacity for destruction. Today, it stands as both a warning and a guide."
Guterres concluded his statement by saying, "It calls on us to build a world where peace is sustained not by fear, but by common purpose."
