Guterres: Sustainable development is impossible without safe sanitation
New York, 19 November (Hibya) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated on World Toilet Day that safe sanitation is one of the key elements of sustainable development.
Guterres noted that where safe sanitation is absent, development is hindered, and contaminated water can spread diseases that cause diarrhea, which result in the deaths of more than 1,000 children every day.
Emphasizing that access to clean water and safe sanitation is a global priority, Guterres called on this World Toilet Day to make safe sanitation a reality for everyone.
