Irish Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris made a statement regarding the situation of activists, including Irish and European Union (EU) citizens, who were detained after the flotilla heading to Gaza was intercepted.

Reacting to Israel’s intervention and detention decisions, Harris said: “The Israeli government's actions against the illegally detained members of the Sumud Flotilla, including Irish and EU citizens, are disgraceful and cannot go without consequences.”

Drawing attention to the legal dimension of the action, Harris concluded his statement by saying: “This is a clear violation of international law.”
