Lavrov: History moves in a spiral, the weak are crushed
Moscow, March 22 (Hibya) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the United States and Europe, emphasizing the importance of pragmatism and mutual interests in diplomacy.
In an interview on the Looking Back program on March 21, 2026, Lavrov highlighted the importance of mutual respect and pragmatism in diplomacy. He stated that every negotiation depends on the personalities and knowledge levels of the parties, and that quick solutions do not work, especially in deeply rooted issues such as those in the Middle East.
Lavrov said that the United States protects only its own interests and may use various methods to do so, while criticizing Europe for a neo-colonial approach.
Referring to tensions in energy markets, Lavrov noted that Europe’s access to cheap energy from Russia has been blocked and that some countries are facing higher prices.
Lavrov emphasized that historical processes repeat themselves and that today we are witnessing a period where “the strong are right.” He stressed the importance of transforming Russia’s strong military, rich natural resources, and scientific potential into advanced technologies. As President Vladimir Putin often states, “the weak are crushed.”
