Macron stated that 430 million tons of plastic are produced every year, polluting all environments.

Highlighting that 15 tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean every minute, Macron said: “Every day, our health is increasingly at risk. So, what are we waiting for to take action? A global agreement against plastic pollution is our chance to make a change. However, the insufficient targets in the text presented yesterday at the United Nations are unacceptable.”

Macron called on all states in Geneva to adopt a text that matches the urgency of the environmental and health situation, adding:

“For our health. For our environment. For our children. I thank all the French negotiators who are working tirelessly to achieve this.”
