Chancellor Merz stated that the US and Germany share the same DNA, saying, “We are partners. We are friends. We are literally family.”

Highlighting that many US citizens have German ancestry, Merz said, “I gave President Donald Trump a copy of his grandfather’s birth certificate. He was born in 1869 in the town of Kallstadt, Germany.”

Merz also emphasized that President Trump plays a key role in ending Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine: “I told him this today during our meetings outside and in the Oval Office. He can put pressure on Russia. We Europeans and Americans have a duty to act against the massacre in Ukraine.”

Stressing their support for Ukraine, Merz underlined that Ukraine must grow even stronger in order for Putin to stop this war.
